Isamu Yamamoto nació en la prefectura de Kumamoto en febrero de 1995. Después de graduarse en la universidad, trabajó para una institución financiera antes de convertirse en fotógrafo. En su nueva andadura artística y profesional, empezó trabajando en un estudio de fotografía hasta que en 2019 se independizó. Con sede en Kumamoto, fotografía una gran variedad de temas, incluidas personas y paisajes, participa en anuncios y documenta la vida cotidiana.

Para empezar, cuéntanos de dónde brota tu pasión por la fotografía.

Siento la pasión por la fotografía en mi día a día.

Cuando paseo por el barrio, cuando paso un rato en casa o cuando salgo a dar una vuelta.

Todo forma parte de mi día a día.

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta de la fotografía?

Me gusta la ambigüedad de no tener una respuesta adecuada.

Dependiendo del espectador, la interpretación puede ser diferente, o uno puede imaginar lo que sucedió antes o después.

También me gusta el hecho de que el momento en que se tomó la fotografía realmente existió en este mundo.

En tus fotografías destaca la presencia recurrente de árboles, agua y sombras. ¿Por qué te atraen estos elementos?

Vivo en una ciudad donde el agua y la naturaleza son abundantes y húmedas.

Así que los veo a menudo en mi vida diaria y me resultan familiares. No me hablan, simplemente existen, y siento cómo si transmitieran algo indescriptible, lo cual me emociona.

Me gustan porque parece que no los entiendo.

¿Cuál es tu lugar favorito de Japón?

No he estado en muchos sitios, pero mi ciudad favorita es Kumamoto, donde he vivido toda mi vida.

No hay tantas cosas como en Tokio, pero hay mucha naturaleza y muchos lugares donde me siento como en casa.

Me gusta el equilibrio entre la naturaleza y la ciudad.

¿Qué lugar te gustaría fotografiar?

Me gustaría tomar fotografías en muchos lugares diferentes, pero elegiría lugares donde la naturaleza perdure.

Quiero tomar fotografías mientras escucho a la naturaleza.

También practicas el retrato. ¿Cuál es el aspecto más complejo y lo que más te gusta de este tipo de fotografía?

Me gusta la fotografía de retratos.

La dificultad radica en que se trata de una fotografía entre personas.

Muchas cosas cambian constantemente debido a la comunicación.

Por eso es importante observar a la persona de cerca y comunicarse con ella.

Ese es el punto difícil, pero también mi punto favorito.

Nombra tres fuentes de inspiración que consideres importantes en tu vida.

Además de la fotografía, ¿qué otras actividades te interesan?

Me interesan las praderas de Aso.

Me gustaría aprender más sobre ellas, que están protegidas por la población local y voluntarios.

Me gustan muchos fotógrafos, pero si tuviera que nombrar uno, sería Yoshihiko Ueda.

Tanto las fotografías como los vídeos que toma son relajantes.

– ¿Qué haces cuando necesitas despejar la mente?

Conducir solo. Hay un lugar llamado Aso que está cerca de mi casa.

Cuando voy en coche allí de noche, antes del amanecer, lo encuentro tranquilo y relajante.

»Everything stays in the house«

Isamu Yamamoto was born in Kumamoto Prefecture in February 1995, he worked for a financial institution after graduating from university before becoming a photographer. He started out in a photography studio until becoming independent in 2019. Based in Kumamoto, he photographs a wide variety of subjects, including people, landscapes, advertisements, and documentation of everyday life.

Where does your love for photography come from?

I feel the love for photography in my daily life.

When I take a walk around the neighborhood, when I spend some casual time at home, or when I go out for a short distance.

It is all part of my daily life.

What do you enjoy the most about photography?

I like the ambiguity of no right answer. 

Depending on the viewer, it can be interpreted differently, or one can imagine what happened before or after.

I also like the interesting point that the moment when the photograph was taken did indeed exist in this world.

In your photographs, the constant presence of trees, water and shadows stands out. Why do these elements attract you?

I live in a city where water and nature are abundant and humid. 

So I often see them in my daily life and they are familiar to me.
They don’t talk to me, they just exist there, and I feel as if they are emitting something that has no words, which excites me.

I like them because I don’t seem to understand them.

What is your favorite place in Japan?

I have not been to many places, but my favorite city is Kumamoto, where I have lived all my life.

There are not as many things as in Tokyo, but there is a lot of nature and many places where I feel at home.

I like the balance between nature and the city.

What place would you like to photograph?

I would like to take photographs in many different places, but I would like to take photographs in places where nature remains from the past.

I want to take photographs while listening to nature.

You also practice portrait photography. What is the most complex aspect and the part you like the most about this type of photography?

I also like portrait photography. 

The difficulty lies in the fact that it is between people.

Many things keep changing because of communication. 

That is why it is important to look at the person closely and communicate with them.

That is the difficult point, but also my favorite point.

Name three sources of inspiration that you consider important in your life.

Nature ・Walking ・Solitude

Besides photography, what other activities are you interested in?

I am interested in the grasslands of Aso.

I would like to learn more about the grasslands of Aso, which are protected by local people and volunteers.

There are many photographers I like, but if I had to name one, it would be Yoshihiko Ueda. 

Both the photographs and films that are taken are calming.

– What do you do when you need to reset your mind?

It is to drive alone.

There is a place named Aso that is located a short distance from my home.

When I go for a drive there in the dark before sunrise, I find it calming and relaxing.

写真に対する愛情はどこから来ているのですか？

日々の生活の中で写真への愛を感じます。

写真で一番好きなところは何ですか？

正解のない曖昧さが好きです。見る人によっては違う解釈になったり、その前後を想像することもできます。

撮影した瞬間が確かにこの世界に存在していたという点も面白くて好きです。

あなたの写真では、木・水・影の存在が際立って感じます。これらはなぜあなたを惹きつけるのですか？

私の住む街は、水や自然が豊富にあり、湿度も高い場所にあります。

日々生活をしているとそれらを見かけることが多く、身近な存在です。

話しかけてくるわけでもなく、ただそこに存在し続ける彼らは、言葉のない何かを発しているような気がしてワクワクします。

分かりそうで分からない。

日本で一番好きな場所はどこですか？

あまり多くの場所に行ったことがないけれど、一番好きな街はずっと住んでいる熊本です。

東京ほど多くのものはないけれど、自然が多く、落ち着く場所が沢山あります。

自然と街のバランスが好きです。

どの場所で写真を撮りたいですか？

色んな場所で写真を撮ってみたいですが、昔からの自然が残る場所で写真を撮りたいです。

自然に耳を傾けながら写真を撮りたいです。

人物写真も撮られますが、その際の最も複雑な部分と最も好きな部分は何ですか？

ポートレート写真も好きです。難しい点は人と人という点です。

コミュニケーションが取れるからこそ様々なことが変わり続けます。

だからこそ、その人をよく見て心を通じ合わせることが重要です。

その点が難しい点でもあり、好きな点でもあります。

あなたの人生で重要だと思うインスピレーションの源を3つを教えて下さい。

自然・散歩・孤独

写真以外ですと、どんなことに興味がありますか？

阿蘇の草原に興味があります。

地元の方やボランティアの方などで守られている阿蘇の草原をもっと知りたいと思っています。

一人でドライブをすることです。

自宅から少し離れた場所にある阿蘇という所に、日の出前の暗い時間からドライブに行くと、心がすっと落ち着きます。
